Carney Jane McGuire

Carney Jane McGuire, a resident of Babylon for more than 50 years who was active in several local organizations, died at Avantara Senior Care in Lake Zurich, Illinois on Saturday. September 3, 2022. She was 92 years old.

She was born in East Hampton to Gwen and William Taylor and graduated from East Hampton High School, Class of 1947. She attended McDowell School of Fashion where she majored in tailoring and tailoring.

She married James McGuire in 1953 and the couple lived for a short time in Bay Shore before buying their house and moving to Babylon Village.

Ms. McGuire was a longtime member of the Pilot Club of Babylon, The United Methodist Church, a volunteer at the Fire Island Lighthouse and in Seatuck. She was the owner of Sundance Florist and well known for her extensive knowledge of plants and flowers as well as her beautiful garden.

“She was also a beloved Girl Scout leader and loved any activity involving nature,” said her daughter Robin Dubin. “She preferred being outside to almost anything, except maybe a good plate of ice cream!” She loved the beach, birds and animals, especially her many 4-legged friends: Pete, Spunky, Heidi, Dweezle and Norman.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2008.

She is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Robin and Bruce Dubin, and Maureen and Michael Tilschner, all of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and Carney and Duane McGuire-Beach of Schenectady, New York; as well as his two grandsons, Taylor and Ryan Boyd.

Davenport Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, Illinois 60047, helped the family make arrangements. A memorial service will be held in Babylon at a later date.
