MotorCities National Heritage Area Announces 2022 Tour Operator Partners

The MotorCities National Heritage Area, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving automotive heritage, is partnering with five Detroit-area tour operators and one Lansing-based tour operator to offer public tours of automotive and labor heritage of the state this tourist season. The partnerships continue a program originally launched in 2019 to serve the 16-county National Heritage Area.

The tour experiences available vary from traditional walking tours to driving a vintage Model A Ford or pedaling a bicycle, while visiting key automotive historic sites and learning the history of how the area put the world on wheels.

“We are thrilled to continue to partner with these companies to provide additional touring options and bring more of our incredible automotive heritage to Metro Detroit and Lansing residents and out-of-town tourists,” said Shawn Pomaville-Size, executive director of MotorCities.

Selected tour operators offer the following experiences:

Ancient tour company — From tinkerers to titans Climb aboard a Model A Ford and explore the story of the automobile’s “coming of age” during the early decades of the 20th century from the vantage point of Detroit’s Woodward Corridor. city ​​institute (formerly Detroit Experience Factory) – MotorCities Auto Heritage New Center, Pontiac and Dearborn Walking Tours. On the New Center walking tour, guests will learn about the past, present, and future of the Detroit area, step back in time by visiting the Ford Piquette Avenue factory, and chat with some of the innovators who now call these neighborhoods home. . Michigan Magic Tours — Henry Ford: From Farm to Factory Tour. South Wayne County Regional Chamber to Honor Downstream Businesswomen

The Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber announced the winners of the 6th Annual Women of Achievement Awards presented by Beaumont Health on Friday, October 14 at 11 a.m. This year’s event will take place at Crystal Gardens, located at 16703 Fort St. in Southgate. .

The ceremony will feature outstanding women in business and community leadership in the Downstream region of Southeast Michigan. It will include a panel conversation on frontline heroes, powered by PNC Bank, which will feature a discussion with frontline leaders highlighting their personal stories of heroism throughout the COVID pandemic.

The panel includes Jenna Dicker of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home representing the memorial service industry; Amy DiBrano of Beaumont Health, registered nurse and clinical manager representing health care; and Courtney Gutierrez, an Allen Park firefighter who deployed on a FEMA mission early in the COVID pandemic, and who will represent first responders. Detroit media personality Christy McDonald will return as emcee and panel moderator for the event.

This year, the chamber will honor recipients of the Kyle F. Stack Leadership Award, Entrepreneur Award, Unsung Heroine Award, and Distinguished Young Woman Award to inspire and recognize future leaders in the region.

The 2022 winners are: Gina Wilson Steward, Kyle F. Stack Leadership Award winner, CEO of The Telegram Newspaper in Ecorse; Entrepreneur Award winner Jessica Bazner, owner of Kevin James Menswear in Trenton; Lisa Rutledge, Unsung Heroine Award Recipient, Taylor Information Center Board Chair; and Distinguished Young Woman Award winner Alyssa Angellotti, vice president of business development at Expert Heating and Cooling at Taylor.

Amazon LGBTQIA+ group raises funds and donates toys for Beaumont children

In recognition of Pride Month, Amazon’s LGBTQIA+ employees in Metro Detroit are supporting a community event on Saturday, June 11, starting at 8 a.m., in partnership with Beaumont Children’s.

The group volunteers at the Walk for Miracles at the Detroit Zoo to raise money for pediatric programs and services at Beaumont Children’s, a Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Amazon is also donating more than 1,000 toys for pediatric patients at eight Beaumont Health hospitals in the nine-county region of southeast Michigan.

KeyBank Teammates to Volunteer for Neighbors Make a Difference Day

KeyBank will host its 31st annual Neighbors Make a Difference Day from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, where Michigan bank teammates will spend time volunteering with community organizations and service projects around the region.

M/I Homes will build 14 homes in the United States to benefit cancer research

M/I Homes, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, has announced it will build 14 homes in its various markets across the United States, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Pelotonia, a national organization leading nonprofit that funds innovative cancer research.

“Cancer research is a cause close to our hearts, and M/I Homes is proud to support Pelotonia, an extraordinarily successful and unique organization focused on accelerating funding for innovative cancer research. says Robert H.
