Dr. James Douglas Link, 88, of Dandridge, Tennessee, died on Friday morning August 5, 2022 at his home. He was originally from Cullman, Ala. and lived in Florence, Ala. 58 years old before moving to Dandridge.
Dr. Link was predeceased by his parents, John Ignatius Link and Edith Austin Link and his brother, John Austin Link.
Survivors include his 64-year-old wife, Dorothy Land Link; daughters, Lauren Link Gass and her husband, Jim of Dandridge, Tenn., and Melissa Link Gelinas of Cumming, Ga.; four grandchildren, James Anderson Gass of Johnson City, Tenn., Link Gass of Dandridge, Tenn.; Sarah Gelinas Schlief (Luke) of Braselton, Ga. and Mary Claire Gelinas (Stephen Kirk) of Chamblee, Ga.; and great-granddaughter, Penelope Chandler Schlief.
Dr. Link graduated from St. Bernard College, attended Duke University, and graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. He completed his internship and pediatric residency at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Link also served in the US Army.
He came to Florence in 1964 and practiced pediatrics at the Infant and Child Clinic until his retirement in 1998. He served as president of the Lauderdale County Medical Society and chairman of medical staff at Eliza Hospital Coffee Memorial. He was also a member of the Alabama Medical Association. He was also recognized by the University Tennessee College of Medicine as an Outstanding Alumnus of 2014.
Dr. Link was a member and deacon of the First Christian Church. He was a member of the National Association for the Preservation and Perpetuation of Storytelling and had done storytelling himself. His involvement in the community included many years of work with the March of Dimes Florence Chapter Board of Directors and the Florence Help Center. He has also served at the state level on the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama Primary Care Network Advisory Committee.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, August 12 at Cullman Memory Gardens. Dr. Foster Eich will officiate.
