Historical Society Book Discussion Held – Kenbridge Victoria Dispatch

At the June meeting of the Lunenburg County Historical Society, two ladies took center stage to share insights into the life and loves of George Washington based on the contemporary author’s research and writings popular Mary Higgins Clark in her first published book, Mount Vernon Love Story. . These loves were his wife Martha, whom he called “Patsy”, and his Mount Vernon estate.

Connie Krupa, children’s program coordinator at the Lunenburg County Library System, presented the Washington Love Letters to his wife. There are very few left because Martha burned them, as was the custom.

Brenda Edwards-Wade, a seasoned English teacher who majored in history, kept audiences spellbound with her dramatic performance as Martha Washington. She gave life to the pages of the “book chat” selection of the meeting!

The Mount Vernon theme for the reunion was a follow up to a bus tour last fall in Mount Vernon. The tour was led by Mount Vernon Curator of Decorative Arts and Design, Lunenburger native Adam T. Erby.
