Obituary of Romaine Burnhauser (1929 – 2021) – Nazareth, PA


Romaine “Betsy” LaRue (Bollinger) Burnhauser, 92, died Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Lutheran Home in Topton, Topton, Pa., Formerly of Germansville. Beloved wife of the late James D. Burnhauser, who passed away on January 19, 2017. Born in Palmerton, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Evena S. (Zellner) Bollinger.
Betsy graduated from Stephen S. Palmer High School, then received her BA in Elementary Education from Kutztown University. She taught fourth grade for 30 years with the East Penn School District. Betsy enjoyed traveling, skiing, playing bridge, collecting antiques and most of all spending time with her family. Volunteering and service were important to Betsy. She was secretary of the Heidelberg Township Planning Committee, Good Citizen Program Coordinator for the Liberty Bell Chapter DAR and a founding member of the Rural Preservation Association of Northwestern Lehigh County, helped set up the Hospital Archives of ‘Allentown, volunteered at Lehigh County Historical The society ultimately commits only to the Palmerton Area Historical Society (PAHS). Betsy served as PAHS Secretary, Program Director, established and served as the Palmerton Area Heritage Center. She was also the chief archivist of the society’s archives. Her greatest achievement was writing and producing a video on the history of Palmerton in conjunction with TV Channel 13, which earned her the prestigious Communicator Award with TV Channel 13. In recognition of this production, Betsy received the Heart and Soul Award. of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in 2001.
Survivors: Daughter, Rebecca E. wife of James Beidelman of New Tripoli. Son, Jeremiah G. and wife Linda M. Burnhauser of Germansville. Sister at heart, Elaine (Penny) Shelly (née Schaffer). Small children; Janell Reeser wife of Kenneth, Elizabeth Earles wife of Matthew, Rachel Massie wife of Justin, Jeremiah M. Burnhauser husband of Rebecca, Elias Beidelman husband of Rebecca, Emily Ekama wife of Peter and Amanda Bornhorst wife of Bradley. Betsy is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by the full hearted sister, June Marcus (née Nicholas).
