OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio – Laura Bednar and her mother Terry spent over an hour browsing through the thousands of items inside Second thyme around antique shop on Sunday.
The store was celebrating its ninth anniversary with various promotions, such as 10% off each item. It was just a bonus for the two who often stop in and see what’s new – or old – at the local store.
“We often come here and find something we love here,” Laura said. “We wanted to quit today because it was a special day and we also have a gift voucher. So that’s an added bonus today.
Laura collects pins and found Tweety Bird and Mickey Mouse pins, the latter of which was made in the 1980s. Terry Bednar bought a jar storage box.
“I’m going to use it in my craft room to put things inside,” Terry said. “I will use it.”
Connie Stephens was a sales clerk at the store for a while. She said the original store owner told her she was planning to move to Florida and asked Connie if she was interested in taking it over.
“I wasn’t sure, but I thought, why not,” Connie said. “I love it here – every minute. Everyone here considers themselves STA (Second Thyme Around) family. We’re all family here.

Andrea Downie is one of the store’s many sales assistants. She creates CLE handbags and cloth gnomes, bunny carrots and other items. She has been sewing and making these creative items for quite some time.
“I learn and do things with my crazy mind,” she said. “I like to share them with others.”

Flapjacks: Back by popular demand is the Olmsted Falls Kiwanis ClubPalm Sunday pancake breakfast.
Pancakes and French toast will be served from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 10 at the Olmsted Falls High School cafeteria. Donation is $8 with children 5 and under free. The menu includes plain, blueberry or chocolate pancakes, French toast, sausages and drinks. You also have a chance of auction baskets. The Easter Bunny might just pass for kids.
The club also holds a raffle for its scholarship fund. The prize is a Vitamix A2500 Ascent Series machine. The Vitamix has a value of $500. Mader Realty is donating it for the raffle. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.
Tickets can be purchased at Mader Realty, 8026 Columbia Road, just over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks. The building offers an additional ticket just to stop. Buy $20 and you get a sixth ticket free. You can also buy them for breakfast.

play tickets: Tickets for “Hello Dolly”, which the Olmsted Falls High School Masquers present, are available at ofmasquers.ludus.com. The play is at 7:30 p.m. on April 8 and 2 and at 7:30 p.m. on April 9 in the high school auditorium. They will also be available at the door.
Local job fair: Olmsted Falls High School is hosting a career fair on April 12 for students and adults. The Olmsted Work$ Community Career Fair will see many employers looking for employees.
The fair is open from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Bulldog students during the start of the fair. Adults and other high school students from the Olmsted area and surrounding communities will meet with employers from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The job fair takes place in the auxiliary gymnasium at Olmsted Falls High School. Jobs include part-time and full-time, seasonal and internship opportunities.

Congratulations to Koa who won first place in the Puppy Love category, Buckaroo the feline in the Cool Cat category and Gus the horse in the Most Varied Pet selection. Second place went to Duke, Puppy Love; Salt, Cool Cat and Buddy, the most varied pet guinea pig.

All candidates?: Each year the Olmsted Falls Historical Society tries to recognize a significant contribution to the historic preservation of Olmsted Falls or Olmsted Township. The pandemic, however, has made society unaware of what other groups are doing.
The society is asking the public to suggest someone who should be recognized for their contribution to the Olmsted Falls area or Olmsted Township more than the average citizen. It’s a way for society to recognize those who have kept the idea of helping others alive. As Bev Smith said, “That’s how history begins to create remarkable cities.”
The company knows there are people here to do the trick, but since the Olmsted community is small, it’s harder to isolate an individual.
Those wishing to make a recommendation can do so by sending their names to the Olmsted Falls Historical Society, 26900 Bagley Road, Olmsted Falls 44138.
Heads up – Part of Jennings Road will be closed starting in April. Look for detour signs.
The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission will begin repairs and rehabilitation of the causeway bridge. It will be closed for about four months.
For those going to the West Side Irish-American Club, you must enter from the south or from Schady Road. The main detour route is Stearns Road to get north or south from Jennings Road.
