FREMONT — Sandusky County Historical Society Vice President Jim Weaver will present a program on the Fremont man who was once known as the world’s greatest sniper at 2 p.m. July 10 at the Museum of Historical Society, 514 Birchard Ave.

Guy Emerson won the ‘World’s Greatest’ title when he became the first person to win the Wimbledon Cup at Camp Perry three times. As well as being a world champion competitor, Emerson was a regular counselor and teacher at Camp Perry.

He was a member of a pioneer family that came to Sandusky County the year it officially became a county – 1820.

Weaver is the author of a book on Emerson and Fremont during Emerson’s time.

Participation in the program is free.

Humane Society organizes a fundraiser for a garage sale

PORT CLINTON — The Humane Society of Ottawa County is hosting a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the shelter, 2424 E. Sand Road.

Hundreds of items will be for sale; furniture, kitchen utensils, household items. sporting goods, home decor, framed art, children’s toys and more.

All proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Ottawa County.

GLCAP launches the 28th People Helping People campaign

FREMONT – The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) launched its 28th annual People Helping People campaign on July 1.

The campaign raises money for GLCAP’s People Helping People fund, which helps low-income individuals and families in GLCAP’s core service area of ​​Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wood counties with needs that go beyond those covered by GLCAP-funded grants programs.

“Life gives us all unexpected challenges, and those challenges tend to hit most of the people we serve the hardest,” said Alex Boroff, director of public relations for GLCAP.
